Busselton Senior High School has a rich history of student success in the Visual Arts. Our Visual Arts faculty continues to be a powerful means of communication and consistently allows students to develop problem solving skills, lateral thinking and the opportunity to express their individuality and creativity. Concurrently, students studying in the Visual Arts are given the opportunity to visually respond to, comment on and express their personal thoughts, ideas, feelings and opinions. Visual Art contexts include Painting, Drawing, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Photography, Sculpture, Print Making, Documented Forms, Mixed Media, Computer Generated Imagery, Video manipulation and Film Production. These contexts provide students with broad learning experiences across a range of forms.
At Busselton Senior High School Visual Art is offered to all students, with senior students able to study General or ATAR Art throughout Year 11 and 12.
The Media and Photography Departments each have state of the art studios showcasing the very latest digital manipulation equipment that is used at WA universities and Visual Art boasts three dedicated art studios allowing large, light open spaces to enhance student visual expression.
In an exciting development, Busselton Senior High School is pleased to announce that for the 2022 school year, Media will, once again, be available as a General course for Year 11 and 12 students. This course enables students to represent their ideas and interests about the world, to engage in contemporary forms of communication and understand and write about the Social, Cultural and Historical issues affecting them. Photography and Digital Media enables students to investigate new technologies, cultural identity and the evolution of Photography and Digital Media into the 21st Century.
Photography and Media offer students the opportunity to explore contemporary artistic practices that make use of photography, video and digital imaging. It also provides opportunities for students to enjoy making and investigating the operations of these fields in the contemporary worlds of design, television, film, video, the mass media and multimedia.
Students enrolling at Busselton SHS with skills in any of the Arts forms are extremely well catered for across a diverse set of offerings. Concurrently, strong and clear pathways beyond secondary school into tertiary studies exist and we have seen countless students realise fulfilling careers in all Arts forms beyond their formal secondary schooling.
